Mike G. Cindia

Michael G. Cindia, age 94, of Alliance, passed away at 2:07 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Canterbury Villa.
He was born October 7, 1922, in Massillon, Ohio to Nick and Helen (Muntean) Cindia.
Mike was a graduate of Massillon Washington High School and he came to the Alliance area in 1945. He was an auto mechanic and owned his own service station, Mike's Amoco. He previously worked for Babcock-Wilcox, and Oldsmobile and Pontiac Garages in Alliance.
A veteran of WWII Army Air Corp stationed in Italy, Mike earned seven battle stars and he was the chief mechanic for the P-51 Mustang. He was a member of Vine Street United Methodist Church where he was involved in the construction of the new church building, American Legion and the DAV in Alliance, and a former member of the Elk's.
Mike enjoyed golfing, bowling, and shooting pool.
He is survived by his wife, Nedra (Marshall) Cindia, whom he married May 5, 1943; sons, Michael (Sharyl) Cindia of Wadsworth and Jack (Peggy) Cindia of Gahanna; five grandchildren, Michael T. (Jaime) Cindia, Susan (Matt) Hutchinson, Laura (Steve) Booher, Jill (Brian) Webb, and Matthew (Jamie) Cindia; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Swartz; and four brothers, Howard, Nick, Amile and John.
Services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mike's honor to Vine Street United Methodist Church or The Alzheimer's Association.
