Edwin J. Ackley

Edwin J. "Ed" Ackley, age 70, of Alliance, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born on September 7, 1946 in Alliance to Victor and Jean B. (Barkhurst) Ackley.
A 1964 graduate of Alliance High School, Ed worked for 21 years at B&W Research before working at Alliance Hardware and retiring from Farmers National Bank.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in Germany for three years.
An active member of Christ United Methodist Church, Ed served on the Stewardship and Finance Committee, and was a member of Friendship II Sunday School Class.
A member of the Alliance Lions Club for 30 years, Ed had perfect attendance, received the 'Lion of the Year Award' and was serving as the current President. He was also club representative to Melvin Jones 130H4 Lions Eye Care Foundation.
Ed was also a member of United Commercial Travelers where he served as Secretary/Treasurer and received 'Man of the Year". He also belonged to the Alliance Area Republican Club, and AARP.
Ed is survived by his wife, Haven A. (Taylor) Ackley, whom he married May 27, 1972; cousins, Ted (Leeann) Denman, Mark (Sandy) Denman, Linda Moseley, and Jim (Karen) Moseley; sisters in law, Terri (Richard) Hoff and Janis (Tom) Williams; two nieces; one nephew; three great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Valerie.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church, 470 E. Broadway St. Alliance, Ohio 44601.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. A Lions Club Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Ed's family would prefer that donations in his honor be made to Alliance Lions Club, c/o Jim Greiner, 6166 Union Ave NE, Alliance, Ohio 44601, or to Lions Eye Care Foundation, c/o P.D.G. John Woodside, 5466 East Blvd NW, Canton, Ohio 44718.
