Arletta L. Shem

Arletta L. Shem, age 99, of Alliance, passed away at 3:31 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Heartland of Willoughby in Willoughby, Ohio.
She was born June 9, 1918, in Alliance, Ohio, to William and Ethel (Button) Lambert.
A 1936 graduate of Alliance High School, Arletta also graduated from the former Alliance Business College.
Arletta was formerly a co-owner along with her late husband, Donald of Shem Paint and Wallpaper founded in 1949, known formerly as the Myron White Wallpaper Store.
She was a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church and member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 296 of Alliance.
Survivors include her daughters, Sarah (b. Donita) Andrews (Cheryl Barber) of Willoughby, Ohio, and Kathy (Dave) Morgan of Westerville, Ohio; one son, Donald W. Shem Jr., of Howard, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arletta was preceded in death by her parents: husband, Donald William Shem, whom she married August 27, 1941 and who died March 16, 2006; infant daughter, Donita Sheryl Shem; and sister, Elaine Prather.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Martha Stewart officiating. Friends may call from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
